Loop Newsletter – Yom Kippur 2017

I see miracles at Chicago Loop Synagogue every single day, and I invite you to share them with me. Share in our High Holiday program, which will be incredible. Our cantor, Shai Abramson, is world-renowned for his voice as well as his engaging personality. During his career, Shai has been the former chief cantor of the IDF, has performed with the Israeli Philharmonic and has entertained many heads of state and visiting dignitaries. He will be joined by Rabbi Kenneth Berger, who is well-known as a warm and knowledgeable presence on the bimah and whose readings and original commentaries are sure to enrich our experience. The Tel Aviv Lev-Ran Singers under the direction of Menashe Lev-Ran will be with us for the 18th straight year, and they will be joined on the bimah by many lay leaders who make our congregation the great institution that it is. Share the miracle of our daily minyanim, where attendance – both on weekdays and weekends – is increasing exponentially. Share your ideas with our Programming Committee, which is hard at work developing a schedule that gets more robust every day. Share the camaraderie of our monthly Shabbos dinners that include thought-provoking guest speakers and mouth-watering kosher food. We have seen increased attendance at every event we have had, and you too can be part of this lively group.

Share the experience of our new twice-monthly lecture series as well. The series will run on both weekdays and weekends to accommodate those who live as well as work in the Loop area. The topic – Gender and Judaism – is guaranteed to be interesting to all. Share the tradition of our monthly Lunch & Learn program on the first Thursday of every month. Share the joy of watching children learn about Judaism. We have partnered with the PJ Library program of JUF to create special children’s programming, including a children’s service for the High Holidays in our downstairs social hall. A comprehensive children’s schedule for 2018 will be rolled out around Chanukah. Share your Sukkot meal with us in our beautiful rooftop sukkah that recently served as a viewing station for the solar eclipse. Share your desire to be part of our community by volunteering. I guarantee we’ll find something interesting for you to do. And of course share your email address with us, because that is how new events will be announced. To me, these opportunities are all miracles – activity and engagement that we could only dream of a year ago. But, there is more, and that is where our entire congregation can get involved. In order for us to realize our potential as a world-class Jewish institution, whether it’s for prayer or programming or both, we need your help – your ideas, your energy, your commitment. And, it goes without saying, we need your financial help too. Now is the time for you to contribute, to share, to make a difference. You can make donations through our website or by calling the synagogue office at 312-346-7370. We have made so much progress in so many areas, and that is the miracle that I focus on this High Holiday season. I hope you join me and continue to help the Chicago Loop Synagogue become a true center for Chicago Judaism for many years to come. We are your synagogue, and you are our congregation. Share your holidays with us, share your Jewish life with us, and experience the miracles that I see happening here every single day.
